Saturday September 12th from 2-4pm
Discover how everyday kitchen scraps transform plain paper into rich, aged material perfect for junk journals and collage. In this hands-on class, we'll experiment with natural dyes made from avocado skins and pits, coffee, black tea, and red cabbage — each producing its own distinct palette, from warm blush pinks to deep sepia browns to soft blue-greens.
You'll learn techniques for dyeing a variety of papers, including book pages, vintage maps, and plain copy paper, exploring how each surface absorbs color differently. We'll cover methods for creating mottled, watermarked, and evenly-toned effects, plus tips for crumpling, crinkling, and distressing paper to enhance that well-loved, antique look.
By the end of class, you'll go home with a stack of one-of-a-kind dyed papers ready to use in your next junk journal, scrapbook, or mixed-media project — along with the know-how to keep experimenting with dyes at home.
No experience necessary. All materials provided; feel free to bring extra papers or ephemera you'd like to dye.
